Timothy L. Ward completed B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering at Montana State University, followed by a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the University of Washington in 1989. He spent three years working as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico (UNM) before becoming a member of the regular faculty at UNM in 1992. He is now Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemical & Nuclear Engineering at UNM. His research at UNM has been focused in two main areas: vapor and aerosol synthesis of materials, and high-temperature metallic and ceramic membranes.

He has more than 45 refeered journal papers, which have generated more than 1800 citations as well as numerous conference proceedings and presentations. Dr. Ward also has been awarded the UNM School of Engineering Teaching Award at the junior and senior level, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of New Mexico. He has three issued U.S. patents.
